Egg donor process

At each stage of our process to become an egg donor, you will be supported by our extraordinary team. Your six-step process begins with our quick and easy application form.

Apply & Implications Call

We genuinely value our egg donors and the gift they provide. It's part of why we go to such lengths to ensure our donors are completely supported throughout your journey with us. The first step of your journey is to complete our short application form to ensure you meet our criteria and confirm your interest.

We will email you to confirm you are happy to proceed and arrange a call with one of our friendly Donor Programme Assistants, Steph, Olivia, or Gina, which typically lasts around 30 mins. They will discuss the process in more detail, explain what's involved and answer any questions you have.

Egg Donor Eligibility Screening

After you've had your call, our team will explain your next steps. You must meet specific criteria to become an egg donor, so we will also arrange for you to undergo some initial screening tests to ensure you can donate.

These will include booking you for a blood test, urine test, and transvaginal ultrasound scan to analyse your Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) level, which indicates your ovarian reserve, also known as your egg reserve . We will also do a screen for nicotine, as egg donors must be non-smokers.

You will also be asked a few questions about your family's genetic medical history to ensure you are healthy and have no hereditary medical conditions. You can take these tests at any of our locations throughout the UK.

Donor Counselling & Consultation

If the tests confirm your eligibility to become a donor, you will be invited to a mandatory counselling session to discuss the legal aspects and other important implications of becoming an egg donor. Most donors use the session to discuss and further explore the donation process.

Our team will also arrange for you to meet virtually with a specialist fertility consultant or nurse, who will discuss your family medical history with you and ensure that you have no inheritable conditions that could be passed on to any child born from your donation, which include additional blood tests.

Preparing For Your Egg Collection

Our dedicated Nursing Team will carefully plan your donation cycle and invite you to a telephone preparation appointment, where you will learn to self-administer the required medication, which can last between 30-45 minutes. To monitor your progress, you'll need approximately 2 – 3 in-clinic appointments leading up to your egg collection.

Also, you will be asked to produce a 'pen picture' and 'goodwill message'. These are messages to give the recipient of your eggs, and ultimately the child born from your donation, an understanding of who you are as a person. Writing your egg donor pen picture and goodwill message is often one of the most intimate parts of the egg donation process, and our donors often like to invest time in ensuring they are perfect. Our accommodating team will provide support and guidance if needed.

Egg Collection

On the day of your egg collection, you will be invited to our state-of-the-art clinic in South Manchester, where you will be welcomed by our team. Our nursing staff will be on hand to help you prepare.

In preparation for your procedure, you'll be given sedation to ensure you're comfortable. The good news is that you won't have to stay at the clinic overnight despite receiving sedation.

Instead, you will be ready to go home after a short rest and a check-up with our clinical team. We do ask that you don't drive yourself anywhere for at least 24 hours after your procedure, so please ensure you arrange for someone to collect you from the clinic.

After Egg Donation

After your donation, we will monitor your recovery, ensuring you have everything you need for the last stages of the journey. You will undergo some final screening tests approximately three months after your donation. By this stage of your journey, you will have received the compensation of £985 for your donation to cover your time and any expenses for attending each appointment visit.
