Donor Egg Collection & Egg Donor Expenses FAQs

Egg Donation

How are eggs collected for donation? How does egg donor compensation work?

Our Donation Team answers your FAQs about the egg retrieval procedure, egg donor payment and when it happens:

How are donor eggs collected?

When you donate eggs, we gently stimulate your ovaries to grow and mature eggs using specific doses of fertility medications that are tailored to you. When ultrasound scans show that your eggs have reached the right stage of growth, you will be booked in for egg collection. This takes place in our clinic theatre.

We have a highly skilled medical team who will administer a local anaesthetic and oral sedation, so you are awake and comfortable. Your eggs are then gently retrieved under ultrasound guidance by a consultant, using a fine catheter. The procedure is not painful and only takes between 15 and 30 minutes to complete.

We will be able to tell you straight away how many eggs you are donating. Afterwards, you will be looked after by nurses in our private ward before you can go home.

Do egg donors get paid?

In the UK egg donors do not get paid for their eggs. But you do receive expenses compensation. This is limited to £750 per donation cycle and is designed to cover any expenses you may have incurred during the egg donation process. Such as travel costs – many of our egg donors do travel some distance to donate to us – and your time.

When do egg donors receive expenses payment?

You will be given the payment of your expenses of £750 after your egg collection procedure. In the days after egg collection, our team will follow-up with you to make sure that you are well. You can also choose to find out if your eggs result in a pregnancy.
