Following Up On Your Egg Donation

Egg Donation

One of the best things about donating your eggs is finding out that a baby has been born thanks to you.

This is one of your rights when you become an egg donor. When you donate eggs, you’ll naturally want to know if they’re successfully used to help someone have a family.

So you can request to find out details of the outcome of your donation from us, or from the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority).

The HFEA keeps a Register that details all the treatments using your donated eggs, the results, and whether treatment resulted in a live birth for your recipient.

You can find out the number of children conceived from your donation, the gender and year of birth.

Messages to recipient families

You won’t be given any identifying details about the family you’ve helped or the child that’s been born, so if there’s something specific you’d like to say or want recipient families to know, you can include it in your egg donor profile.

You can write anything you wish in your donor profile, as long as it doesn’t have any information in it that could potentially reveal your identity.

Remember that anonymity is intact between egg donor and recipient. You’re only identifiable to donor-conceived children, who can apply to the HFEA for information about you when they turn 18 years old.

Details that could identify you will never be given to the person using your eggs, and can’t be included in your profile. If a recipient wishes to say thanks to you as their egg donor following successful treatment, we can pass on any anonymous messages of gratitude.

Messages to donor-conceived children

You’ll also be invited to write a personal goodwill message to any child that’s born as part of your profile completion. Your message may be passed onto a donor-conceived child one day, when their parents explain genetic origins.

Many of our donors like to write about how happy they were to help the child’s parents have a baby, and their hopes for the child’s future.

See the difference egg donation makes

Egg donation is life-changing – not just for you but for those who have a baby thanks to you.

Read some of the stories of patients who’ve conceived through fertility treatment with us – many of them have only been able to have their babies thanks to a Manchester Donors egg donor.

If you’re inspired to join our award-winning egg donor programme, learn more about the egg donation process and criteria, and browse our blog library, to see if it’s right for you.

When you donate eggs you can either receive compensation for time travelling to and from our clinic and expenses, set at £985 a cycle, or if you need IVF yourself you can instead receive subsidised IVF through egg-sharing.

If you’ve got any questions, our dedicated Donation Team can help further on 0161 300 2734.
