Manchester Donors becomes Egg Donors UK

Egg Donation General News
Egg Donors UK Logo

Since the first known egg donation took place in 1983, resulting in a successful pregnancy, egg donation has changed the face of fertility treatment worldwide. With advancements in ovarian stimulation protocols allowing for the retrieval of multiple eggs in the following years, egg donation programmes began to offer women the opportunity to donate their eggs, helping countless individuals and couples achieve their dreams of parenthood. In North West England one such programme was among this movement – Manchester Donors.

Today, our expert team of donation assistants and co-ordinators, fertility doctors, nurses, midwives, and counsellors, offer women across the UK the opportunity to make an unparalleled impact on others’ lives by starting their egg donation journey at one of our locations.

With our unwavering commitment to supporting women throughout the UK, we proudly announce our evolution from Manchester Donors to Egg Donors UK. Our new identity reflects our dedication to expanding access to egg donation and continuing to change lives, one donation at a time.

Introducing Egg Donors UK

Egg Donors UK is one of the largest networks in the UK to offer egg donation services. It was created by the team at Manchester Fertility, who have over 35 years of experience supporting people in achieving their dream families. They have helped deliver more than 8,000 babies over that time, and the expansion of the donor network gives us an opportunity to support many more patients on their path to parenthood.

Our donation programme has always been praised for our unrivalled donor support, and now, we can offer that support to a wider network of donors across the UK.

Egg Donors UK stood out the most for me, not only because of their efficiency in responding to any questions and concerns I had but because of their warm and friendly staff, who honestly could not do enough for me. The staff are amazing at their jobs. They made me feel like family!

Why our donor egg bank was created

The need for donor gametes has been steadily increasing throughout the years. According to the HFEA (Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority), around 1 in 6 children born as a result of IVF treatment were conceived using donor eggs, sperm or embryos in 2019, a rise from 1 in 13 in 2007. There are likely many reasons for this trend, such as societal attitudes towards family planning, advancements which improve success rates, and diverse family structures.

In 2015, responding to the growing need for egg donation, we established a dedicated team to focus on our egg donor recruitment programme. Samantha Slack joined our team, bringing extensive administrative experience, having managed operations across several regional sites in and around Manchester in her previous role.

As a Donor Programme Coordinator, Samantha’s passion for processes, systems, and the general function of day-to-day operations allowed her to work closely with Managing Directors Dr Debbie Falconer and Jonathan Koslover to build a team. The aim was to provide unrivalled support to egg donors throughout the process, ensuring a positive experience for everyone involved.

Our expanding egg donation network

Today, our relationship with local monitoring centres across the country allows us to offer a wide network of UK locations. Here donors can start their journey with preliminary blood tests, scans, and health checks carried out to ensure they meet the criteria needed to become an egg donor.

Currently, our network includes centres across Lancashire, Yorkshire, the North West and the Midlands, in addition to our main clinic and treatment hub in South Manchester.

Egg donors can start their journey at any one of our locations:

  • Blackpool
  • Chester
  • Derby
  • Leeds
  • Leicester
  • Liverpool
  • Nottingham
  • Preston
  • Sheffield
  • Stoke-on-Trent
  • Wigan
  • York

Throughout your egg donation journey, our central team of Donor Programme Assistants—Gina, Olivia, and Steph—will be there to support you every step of the way.

As Egg Donors UK’s Head of Operations, Samantha Slack continues to oversee the donor programme.  Reflecting on the growth she has witnessed in her time here, she says.

It makes me super proud to think that over the years, the central administration team has gone from one person to a team of six people working really hard to care for egg donors and those patients who need a donor to create their families.  Egg Donors UK means that we will have the chance to help more people throughout the UK and see the happiness that the gift of life can give.

Accessible egg donation

At Egg Donors UK, we make sure the egg donation journey fits around our donors’ busy lifestyles. And, as frequent clinic visits are part of the process, we’ve made it easier by allowing most appointments to be carried out at a local centre.

With our locations across the UK, you can choose where you start your egg donation journey. This way the egg donation experience is kept as straightforward and hassle-free as possible.

Our new website allows donors to find out more about the donation journey, including in-depth information about each of our locations. If you’d like more information to decide if egg donation is suitable for you, our friendly team can answer any questions you may have before applying.
