All our egg donors are well supported by our dedicated, professional and caring Donation Team. But in addition to our care, did you know there are also professional external organisations to advise and help women considering or going through egg donation?

Here’s an overview of the main support sources we refer our donors to, so you can see what they do and how they can help you:

The National Gamete Donation Trust (NGDT)

The National Gamete Donation Trust is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to egg and sperm donation in the UK and those who depend on it to have a child.

Via the NGDT you can find out all the information and impartial advice you need about being an egg donor including the process, egg donor rights, FAQs and implications, and get some insight into the importance of egg donation and your life-changing gift.

The NGDT also provides support for egg donors and people conceived through donation before 1991, operating the voluntary Donor-Conceived Register allowing donors, donor-conceived people and related siblings to get in touch.

You can also learn about its Centre of Excellence scheme. Manchester Donors was the first egg donor programme in the UK to achieve this prestigious mark of quality from the NGDT, in recognition of our outstanding donor care, making us a preferred referral clinic for women who want to donate eggs. We remain the only donor programme in the North to have achieved this award.

The Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA)

The HFEA is the UK’s independent fertility regulator, regulating all fertility treatment, egg and sperm donation in the UK and providing best practice guidance to licensed fertility clinics both NHS and private. It holds information about all fertility treatments and donations carried out since August 1991.

The HFEA provides support to egg donors, donor-conceived people and their families. You’ll find practical advice, facts and regulatory information about being an egg donor, such as compensation and the rules about releasing your information to donor-conceived people in future years, if a request is made.

It also explains your rights as an egg donor, such as your right to know how many children have been born from your donation and how to get information about donation outcome from the HFEA.

The HFEA also operates the Donor Sibling Link – a voluntary register allowing people conceived from the same donor to get in touch.
