Things to Consider Before Being an Egg Donor

Egg Donation

Becoming an egg donor to help someone have a baby is incredibly rewarding. It can be life-changing – not just for the woman you’re helping, but also for you as the egg donor.

It’s why donating eggs should always be a carefully considered decision. If you’d like to apply to join our award-winning Manchester Donors programme, here’s what you need to know:

Prepare for the egg donation journey:There are lots of different stages to the egg donation process before actual egg retrieval, from screening tests, medical review to counselling. These are important to ensure not only that you can be an egg donor, but that you’re happy to donate your eggs.

Time and commitment:It’s important to us that our egg donors aren’t inconvenienced by their generous donation, so we’ll streamline the process where we can for you and aim to make all your appointments fit in with your daily life. Only a small number of visits are actually needed to our Cheshire clinic in the lead-up to egg retrieval and donation, for your consultation, screening, counselling and careful monitoring through stimulation phase.

Being an identifiable egg donor:All egg donors in the UK are identifiable – which is a great thing for egg donors, patients and the children they have. You’re giving a donor-conceived person the chance to learn about their genetic origins one day, and how they came to be born with your help. As the egg donor you’re not a child’s legal parent and are not legally responsible in any way. Being identifiable means that a donor-conceived person has the right to apply for identifying details about their egg donor, when they turn 18, if they wish to know who you are.

Counselling:All egg donors are givencounselling because the implications of egg donation can affect you in future years. Counselling is carried out by our experienced and friendly counselling team, who will discuss how you feel about egg donation and its implications for you, so you’re fully prepared and 100% happy to donate your eggs.

Personal help and support:Once you start your journey, you can be assured of our support every step of the way from the moment you apply. Our Manchester Donors team will spend a lot of time personally looking after you and guiding you through the process, ensuring you’re always informed at every stage. We’re committed to responsible egg donation, your wellbeing is our top priority – it’s why so many women choose and trust us for egg donation.
