What happens to my donated eggs?

Egg Donation

You’ve been matched as someone’s egg donor, you’ve been through the egg donation process, and your eggs have been safely collected. What happens next?

Many women have a personal, vested interest in the journey of their donated eggs. Given the considerable time and effort that our egg donors give to our programme, it’s natural to want to know more – how will your eggs be used now? Has treatment worked and is your recipient pregnant? Has a baby been born?

Although anonymity is in place between egg donor and recipient, we know you’ll probably wonder how your recipient is getting on in the days and weeks after your egg collection, how treatment is going for her, and if she’s well.

On the day of your egg collection, we’ll be able to tell you how many eggs you’ve donated. Your eggs will be used straight away by your recipient in an IVF with donor eggs cycle.

Your eggs will be fertilised with the sperm of either your recipient’s partner, or using donor sperm from our Semovo sperm donor bank.

If you wish to know whether your eggs have been used successfully, you can get in touch with us and we can let you know if a baby has been born, the year of its birth and its gender.

Egg donation is a very personal thing for many women to do; it’s life-changing not just for our egg donors but for our patients too.

Knowing you’ve helped to create a family is what it’s all about. There’s no better news to get than that of the safe arrival of a baby, born thanks to you.

If you’d like to donate your eggs and give the hope of a child to someone, read all about the egg donation process, egg donation FAQs and our regularly-updated egg donation blog that has lots of useful information. If you’re ready to apply, complete our simple preliminary application form online, and we’ll get back to you.

To donate eggs to us, you must be aged 18-35, a non-smoker (at least three months nicotine free including e-cigarettes) and in good health.

If you’ve got any questions about egg donation, get in touch with us on 0161 300 2734.
